How Technology is Changing the Face of Learning

When you went to school, all you probably had in your classroom was a blackboard and some dog-eared textbooks, but how times have changed!

Today’s kids are using technology pretty much as soon as they can talk, and because they’re comfortable with it, laptops, tablets, and other technologies are being increasingly used in the classroom.

Whether you’re a fan of technology or not, the fact is, it’s here to stay, and kids need to develop the skills to use it to improve their future job prospects. The way to teach kids these skills is to bring technology into the classroom. Let’s look at how technology is changing the face of learning.

Learning can take place anywhere

Learning doesn’t just have to happen in the classroom now. Because of iPads and laptops, kids can do homework and work on projects anywhere, whether that’s at home, in the library, in the car, or on the bus.

eBooks are becoming more popular than textbooks

Textbooks take up a lot of space in the classroom and in pupils’ bags, and they also need replacing often. With more mobile devices in classrooms, pupils might find it easier to learn from presentations, slideshows, or eBooks.

Kids are more engaged

Technology is a lot more interactive for kids. Lessons are no longer just about the teacher talking at the class. The teacher might facilitate a lesson but pupils play a far more active part.

Collaboration is possible

The wonders of technology can make it possible for classes to collaborate with each other, whether they’re in the same building or on the other side of the world. Imagine working on a French project and being able to work with kids in France!

Lessons can be more customised

Every pupil learns at a different pace and in a different way, and technology can provide learning tools to suit different pupils so they can learn at a pace that suits them and their individual learning style.

Do you think technology is having a positive or negative effect on learning? We’d love to know what you think!
