The Life Skills Series: How Our Classes Teach Kids About Perseverance

While we can’t deny that today’s kids have a lot of stressors to contend with, they’re also a lot more privileged than previous generations in many ways. Because of this, kids can often grow up with a sense of wanting things, but not being prepared to do the work to get them.

In the next few blogs, we’re going to look at some of the key skills kids need for life, and the first one we’re going to examine is perseverance. How can you teach kids about perseverance and encourage them to work hard without being afraid to fail?

At STEAM Lab, our workshops and classes teach kids about perseverance, and show them the rewards that come when they’re prepared to keep on trying until they find a solution. Here’s how

Our workshops and classes have an end goal

Kids arrive at our classes knowing that the main goal is to learn how to build a model or get something to move etc, and this makes it easier to engage them and get them to learn new skills and find ways to overcome obstacles.

They provide a challenge and teach kids new skills

Kids love a challenge and they’re motivated to work hard to achieve the end result, especially when they’re learning something new.

Our session leaders are supportive and encourage independent thought

Children thrive when they’re being guided by adults who are supportive and encourage them to make decisions for themselves.

Our sessions teach kids about teamwork

Teamwork is an essential life skill, and our sessions encourage kids to work together, help each other, and take the lead sometimes.

Our workshops and classes are fun

Kids don’t mind working hard when they are getting the chance to have fun, learn, and make new friends.

When kids learn to persevere, and to not give up when the going gets tough, it increases their confidence in themselves and what they are capable of. Perseverance is just one of the skills that kids need for life. Next time, we’ll look at teamwork, how working with others can be hugely rewarding, and how it can drive creativity and innovation.

STEAM Lab is a social enterprise that runs classes and workshops aimed at teaching kids about science, technology, engineering, art, and maths-all while having fun!

We believe that every child deserves the chance to reach their potential and have a brighter future, whatever their background.
