Why Children Should Learn How to Code
Technology is inescapable and it’s constantly advancing. We live in a world where almost everything is done on or by computer, so learning skills like coding can be of real benefit for children. Here’s why children should learn how to code.
It will improve their future prospects
When kids are learning how to use smartphones and tablets, even if they’re playing games, they’re having fun learning what different commands do. But what they’re also doing is learning basic concepts of engineering, robotics, and computer technology. These skills can improve their prospects for the future in an increasingly technology-driven world.
It teaches them problem-solving skills
Coding can be complex, but it’s all about trial and error, testing, and finding solutions to problems. This can help them develop valuable problem-solving skills which can help them later in life.
Coding leads to better communication
Learning coding is almost like learning another language, and learning computer language means that children will understand technology better and be able to spot potential problems. For example, if their computer isn’t working, they’ll be able to work out why.
Where can children learn how to code?
There are educational programmes and games that children can use to learn coding at home, and coding is increasingly making its way into classrooms.
At STEAM Lab, we run fun and engaging classes and workshops, including coding, for children aged 3-16 years. The sessions develop their interest in STEAM subjects, supplement what they learn in the classroom, and help them learn vital skills for the future.
Being computer literate is essential in the modern world, and those who learn more than just the basics can really excel in their careers, and in life.
STEAM Lab is a social enterprise that runs classes and workshops aimed at teaching kids about science, technology, engineering, art, and maths-all while having fun!
We believe that every child deserves the chance to reach their potential and have a brighter future, whatever their background.
